Black Dot

1 min read
My friend, the Yellow Jester and I are busily (lazily) working on Issue #1 of Black Dot, a comic about the far future. Following the adventures of an assassin trying to track down the ape who murdered thousands, and stop the ape aliens from raising Guerilla Warfare on the universe. Book One will be about finding the one ape, General Khan. After that, well... why am I typing all these spoilers?! Shh! Go on, get! No more talkie.

Holmes Inc #3 is coming out at the Toronto FanExpo this year. Unlike the previous two, where I was only an inker, this one will have my premier pencil work as well! I'm very excited!

So, the past few weeks I've been plugging away at the story arc for the year/series 1 of the comic. Slowly pulling inked pages together. The first series tells the eventual formation of Team-Captin HeadQuarters on Terra's biggest city, Capton City.
We open with a mysterious green, wide-smiling guy lost in the sewers. It doesn't take long for him to be pulled top-side by a cry for help. The green hero, known as Belt Thunder, thwarts a purse-napping in progress-- using his amazing special power of distracting people for a few seconds by dangling his belt in front of them. Using the dazed state of the crook (John Porter), Belt turns the tables by snatching the criminal's desert eagle gun.
Unfortunately, up above two new heroes have arrived to the cry for help, and assume Belt Thunder is the real bad guy. They get the jump on him, knocking Belt unconscious long enough for John Porter to escape. The damsel in distress (Honey Alure) explains the situation, and after reviving Belt, the trio of heroes chase the fleeing crook who had snatched Honey Alure's purse amidst the confusion.
The heroes manage to corner John Porter on the rooftops, only to discover that he has a power. The power to change into his "ultimate form".
Belt Thunder makes short work of the changed Villin. The three heroes conclude that they work pretty well as a team.
Thus ending the first story.

Finally done with the inking course. By that I mean, it's over... and I'm kind of sad. It was really fun, and the class was full of nice folk. Teachers were pretty cool too.
All good things come to an end, however; so now it's on to the next frontier... Inking my own comicbook. I can't post a page I did recently, because it's for a collab event where you only get to see the last page drawn, and hand off your page to the next guy who only sees your page. Makes for a random-ass comic, but that's all the fun of it!
At any rate, that page was really rushed and yet, still pretty good. It needed some work and linework consideration, all things I'll keep in mind when I move in to my own project.

On the game-making front, I joined a group of guys who are pooling ideas and resources to make a short RPG. The story idea is about a sailor who lost his head in a whaling accident. He embarks on a quest to find the most powerful head so he can go out and kill the whale. It's going to be hilarious when it all comes together; though for now we're just going through rough work and collecting resources.

Team-Captin, as the decided and obvious choice for my next comic project, is perplexing me of late. I've been trying to change the visual style for ages, and each time come to a standstill when Belt Thunder is concerned. If you try to change the Belt Thunder face, it instantly becomes a weirdass grotesque freak of nature. Yes, he IS a weirdass grotesque freak of nature; but currently you can't TELL that.
At any rate, I may just end up adding more details to clothing on the original style for this comic. Maybe it'll evolve from there into something else, who knows.

That's about all I care to update about at the moment, so take care!

Been busy-busy at work designing new Villins. Arch-Villins to be precise. The kind of badguy/girl who really daunts the opposing Captin. It's funtimes, though can be hard to focus on the Captin at hand. Already have two for Time Bender, which is a pain because there's just so many more to do!

On brighter news, Captin Gecko Toss, the Master of All Cosmos, has a new computer---so the site project is not dead. Whew! So, the MCP wants to play rough, eh? I'll disc him so hard... ER, anyway-- good news.

This course coming up is making my mind ooze with anticipation. Trying to find ways of avoiding thinking about this. Aside the site, possible children's books, and Villins, I've been thinking keenly about Tokyo. Possibility of going to Tokyo Game Show this year is skyrocketting with my new schedule. All that remains is cash and flight availabilities... Here's me crossing my fingers.

Well eff.

So, despite the wonderful new energy being breathed into Team-Captin.com, the web designer Gecko Toss's computer died a night ago. The website will remain as is; bleak and stale.
On the up side of this terrible event, Gecko Toss can focus more easily on school, and I can continue to pursue new knowledge in cartooning. Also, I'm heavily considering writing / drawing children's stories until the site is ready. I can probably pump them out relatively fast. The issue remains of finding a publisher for them. However, it's not impossible. So maybe this is the next step in my life.
Something lost is something gained.
